Our Investment Approach
BGA was established to provide investment advice to a group of venture capital professionals. To help them achieve their goals, we have developed a suite of investment options that includes ETFs, mutual funds, and separately managed accounts. Laura Alves
Executive Assistant
Laura assists the family office and investment teams with their administrative needs. She supports family office clients directly with accounting, bill pay, and special requests. She also facilitates meetings, travel, and events for the entire staff. Laura brings over 30 years of company-specific knowledge and historical context to BGA; before transitioning to BGA in 2011, Laura had worked as an Executive Assistant at Battery Ventures since the company’s inception. Laura is a graduate of Katharine Gibbs College and enjoys mid-coast Maine, needlepoint, and ice skating.
Amanda Benner
Controller
Amanda focuses on all aspects of accounting, tax compliance, and reporting for BGA’s private funds. She supports the CFO in the areas of legal and regulatory compliance, operations, and system administration and maintenance. Prior to BGA, she worked as an Accounting Manager at Broadscope Fund Administrators and as an Assistant Controller at AEW Capital Management. Amanda, a licensed CPA, graduated from the University of New Hampshire with a BS in Family Studies before attaining an MS in Accounting and MBA from Northeastern University. She enjoys spending time at the beach in the summer and traveling.
Tammy Braverman

Tammy provides the Israel team with office management and maintenance. She supports our Relationship Managers with administrative and operational client services. Tammy brings 25 years of experience in service-based organizations including her own concierge business, which she began after relocating to Israel with her family in 2007. A native New Yorker, Tammy earned her MSW from Yeshiva University. She enjoys traveling, gardening, swimming, and time with her family.
Daniel Burns
CFO & Chief Compliance Officer
Dan manages all aspects of accounting, compliance, and operations for both the firm and its private funds. He supports the investment team with risk management and analysis, and he plays an integral role in manager due diligence. Dan has supervised the legal and structural formation of numerous funds under BGA’s management. In addition, he implements systems and procedures that align the firm with the current technology and security standards in the industry. Dan was previously an auditor at KPMG and an internal auditor at Barclays Capital. A licensed CPA, he earned both a BS in Accounting and an MBA in Finance and Entrepreneurship from the NYU Stern School of Business. In his spare time, Dan enjoys playing piano, skiing, softball, and spending time with his family. He serves as a Commissioner of Trust Funds for the town of Needham.
Alex Cobb

Alex is responsible for a broad range of investments and client relationships. He helps manage investments in real estate, equities, and other areas. He works with our clients to orchestrate all aspects of their portfolio construction. Alex leverages his experience as an equity analyst at Fidelity Investments and the Raptor hedge fund at Tudor, where his coverage included technology, media, airline, transportation, and energy companies. He volunteers on the board of Camp Agawam in Maine. Alex is a CFA® charterholder and earned his BA from Middlebury College and his MBA from Harvard Business School. He enjoys paddle tennis and skiing with his family.
George Cohen

George is responsible for analyzing investment opportunities across different asset classes and capital structures. He collaborates with other members of the investment team on new idea generation and the analysis of existing portfolio holdings. He conducts research on asset allocation, capital markets, and macroeconomic trends. George previously worked as an analyst for Proskauer Rose LLP, where he analyzed private credit terms and market trends. He earned a BS in Mathematical-Economics from Wake Forest University, and is a CFA® charterholder. George enjoys playing tennis and golf in the summer and paddle tennis in the winter.
Brandon Colón

Brandon is responsible for a broad range of investments and client relationships. He identifies, evaluates, and manages investments across global equities, hedge funds, and fixed income and credit strategies. Brandon was previously a Managing Principal at Meketa Investment Group and was the Chair of the firm’s Investment Committee. He led the public markets manager research process, focused on the sourcing and due diligence of hedge fund strategies, and worked with clients to design and implement alternative investment policies. Prior to Meketa, Brandon worked at Balter Capital, a Boston-based fund of hedge funds, and he started his investment career at Cambridge Associates. Brandon earned a BA in Psychology from Bates College and an MBA from Yale School of Management. He is an avid skier and golfer and enjoys hiking and traveling with his wife.

Michael works with the tax and estate planning team to ensure tax compliance while advising clients on how to minimize their income, gift, and estate taxes. He is responsible for providing analyses of clients’ current tax, estate, and financial planning needs and he assists with managing incoming tax documents for the firm. Previously, Michael spent three and a half years providing family office services to high-net-worth clients at the Bollard Group. He graduated from Saint Anselm College with a BA in Accounting. Outside of the office, he enjoys playing golf, snowboarding, and spending time with friends.
John Dinneen
COO & Director of Tax and Estate Planning
John oversees the family office practice and advises high net worth clients on the design and execution of multigenerational estate plans. He leverages his extensive public accounting and tax experience to help clients minimize income, gift, and estate taxes. John has built many longstanding relationships with clients whom he mentors on the family dynamics of wealth transfer. He is a licensed CPA and spent ten years as a Tax Director at PricewaterhouseCoopers. He is a member of the AICPA and MSCPA. He earned his BS in Accounting from Boston College and his law degree from Boston College Law School. John serves as the Treasurer of the Needham Soccer Club, and he enjoys coaching his son’s sports teams and playing soccer and golf in his spare time.

Allison handles day-to-day relationship management for her family office advisory clients. Her areas of focus are cash flow planning, reporting, investment facilitation, and ongoing ad-hoc projects driven by client needs. She also customizes and maintains the firm’s financial reporting and CRM systems to ensure their effectiveness for employees, clients, and investors. Prior to joining BGA, she was a member of the administration team at Battery Ventures. Allison graduated with a BS from Elon University and attained her CFP® certification in 2017. She enjoys kiteboarding in the warmer months and playing tennis year-round.
Ken Dubois
Head of IT and Infrastructure
Ken is responsible for all things related to technology and infrastructure. This includes computer hardware, software, cyber and physical security, cloud-based applications, and email. Ken was previously the Director of Information Technology at Premium Guard, Inc. He has worked in many types of environments including education, finance, warehousing, and medical devices. Ken earned his BS from Western Governors University. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking and traveling with his wife and dog.

Kristin utilizes experience gained in the four years she worked on the Client Advisory & Wealth Planning team at Boston Private Wealth before joining BGA. Kristin, a CFP® professional, graduated with a BSBA in Finance from Elon University’s Love School of Business. She enjoys spin classes and spending summer weekends on Cape Cod.

Michael advises clients on how to navigate tax compliance issues in Israel. He supervises income tax and estate planning, accounting, and reporting requirements while helping clients to minimize income, gift, and estate taxes. Michael is a licensed Israeli CPA with extensive experience in Israeli and international tax law. Before joining BGA, Michael spent twelve years at BDO Israel, a public accounting firm whose clients include multi-national companies and high net worth individuals. Michael completed his undergraduate studies at Israel College of Management and received an MBA from Tel Aviv University. Outside of work, Michael can be found coaching girls’ basketball and spending time with his family.

Ilan’s prior experience working with the Israeli banking system, including most recently at Edmond de Rothschild, enables him to help navigate the complexities that arise with dual citizenship in Israel. Ilan graduated from the Arison School of Business in the IDC Herzliya with a BA in Finance. Outside of the office, he enjoys spending time with family and friends, mountain biking, scuba diving, and nature trails.

Alison graduated with a BS in Finance from the Farmer School of Business at Miami University (OH) and has served as Treasurer for the Hanlon School PTO in Westwood. She is an avid Boston Bruins fan and enjoys skiing with her family.

She conducts research on asset allocation, capital markets, and macroeconomic trends. Andrea recently worked as an Investment Analyst for Goldrock Capital, where she analyzed alternative investment opportunities. Previously, she worked at Bear Stearns. She earned a BS in Finance from Yeshiva University and her MBA from Keller Graduate School in Chicago. Andrea enjoys spending time with her four children.

She has prior experience as an Associate Relationship Manager at Stonehage Fleming, where she facilitated investments, reporting, and payment execution for high net worth clients. Kaylee graduated with a Bachelor of Accounting from the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa, and is a South African Chartered Accountant. In her free time, Kaylee enjoys spending time with family and friends, going to the beach, cooking, and baking.

She works alongside our tax and investment team members to ensure a seamless experience for our clients residing in Israel. Rebecca graduated from Bar-Ilan University with a Psychology degree. She utilizes her experience in strategic partnerships and client relationship management both in the financial and start-up industries to anticipate and respond to client needs based on her significant cross-industry, growth-focused experience. Rebecca enjoys being outdoors, traveling to new places and spending time with family.

Brian advises high net worth clients on tax, estate, and financial planning strategies. He utilizes his extensive experience in public accounting to help clients minimize their income, gift and estate taxes, and enjoys working closely with clients to help them work through complex tax matters. Brian is a licensed CPA and spent over twelve years at PwC as a Tax Director in the Personal Financial Services (PFS) practice. He worked with a number of high net worth families, trusts, private foundations, and family limited partnerships. Brian earned his BA and MS in accounting from Boston College. Outside of work, he enjoys spending time with his family, cheering for Boston sports teams, and volunteering with the Arc of Massachusetts and the Asperger/Autism Network (AANE).

Andrew previously worked as an analyst with Loreda LLC, a single family office, where he focused on research and reporting of existing portfolio holdings as well as the due diligence and sourcing of hedge fund managers and direct and co-invest opportunities. He earned his BS in Finance from Bentley University. Andrew enjoys playing golf and hockey and cheering for his Minnesota sports teams.

Hillel oversees BGA’s family office practice in Israel and maintains relationships with our clients and their professional partners. He advises families on how to navigate tax compliance issues in the US and Israel. He supervises estate planning, accounting, and reporting while helping clients to minimize income, gift, and estate taxes. Hillel is a licensed US CPA with extensive experience in both American and Israeli tax law. Prior to joining BGA, he spent seven years at Israel’s leading US tax firm advising high net worth individuals and venture capitalists. Hillel received his BS in Accounting from Yeshiva University and began his professional career at Deloitte & Touche in New York. He earned his MBA at Bar-Ilan University after relocating to Israel with his family in 2002.

Trident is responsible for researching and analyzing investment opportunities across a variety of asset classes. He works closely with other members of the investment team to generate new investment concepts, keep track of existing investments, and construct detailed models and reports. A University of Miami alumnus, Trident majored in Management, Finance, and Business Law, and held the position of Chief Investment Officer in the university’s student-run investment fund. He is currently pursuing his CFA certification. Outside of work, Trident enjoys traveling with his family and fishing.
John O’Connor

John partnered with the leaders of Battery Ventures to establish BGA in 2005. He directs the investment team and is responsible for decisions across a broad range of public and private markets. His investment knowledge spans global equity and credit markets, hedge funds, alternative investments, private equity funds, and real estate partnerships. John has developed a highly specialized expertise in tax, estate, and investment planning for families with exposure to concentrated carried interest positions. John previously advised clients on tax and investment matters while at RINET, a financial consulting firm. He earned his BS in Accounting from Bryant University and was a licensed CPA. He volunteers on the boards of Hope and Comfort and Weston Little League, and he coaches youth athletics.

He earned a BBS in Economics and Finance from the University of Limerick and is a triple recipient of the Kemmy Business School Outstanding Scholar Award. In his spare time, you will find Conor exploring the local music scene in Boston or visiting family in his native Ireland.

Ernie was most recently at Boston Capital Real Estate Partners, where he worked closely with senior professionals in all aspects of real estate acquisition, asset management, and fund reporting. He earned his BA at Dartmouth College. He enjoys participating in local touch-rugby and softball leagues and traveling with his family.

Marcy advises high net worth clients on strategies to minimize income, gift, and estate taxes while helping them reach their financial and philanthropic goals. She is a licensed CPA with extensive experience handling complex tax matters. Prior to joining BGA, Marcy spent 29 years at Trans National Group as Vice President and Director of Tax, Accounting and Human Resources, where she focused on income and estate tax planning and business management for owners of pass through entities. She earned her BS in Accounting at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst Isenberg School of Management. Outside of work Marcy enjoys travel, reading, and spending time with her family at the beach.

She manages the majority of incoming tax documents for the firm and also assists the family office team with ad-hoc projects. Leveraging five years of public accounting experience, Meagan most recently performed tax return reviews, estate planning, and other family office services as a Tax Manager at the Bollard Group. She graduated from Bentley University with a BS in Accounting and a Masters in Taxation, and she is a licensed CPA. In her free time, Meagan enjoys tending to her plants, workout classes, traveling, and cooking.

David spent ten years working in the Private Banking division of Credit Suisse as a Senior Fixed Income Trader focusing on rates and credit products. David earned a BS in Finance and MIS from the University of Albany, and he holds an MBA in Finance from the Baruch College Zicklin School of Business. He enjoys skiing, tennis, and traveling with his family.
Todd Silverman

Todd is responsible for a broad range of investments and client relationships. He identifies, evaluates, and manages investments across private funds, including private equity and venture capital, as well as other asset classes. Todd was previously a Managing Principal at Meketa Investment Group where he was head of private equity research and a member of the firm’s private markets research committees for private equity, private credit, and real estate. He worked with a broad range of institutional clients on all aspects of sourcing, manager selection, investment due diligence, and portfolio construction. Todd was also previously head of private credit research at Meketa and started his career at Liberty Mutual in a variety of roles, including as a private equity research analyst. Todd earned a BA degree in Economics and International Relations from Colgate University and is a CFA® charterholder and a CAIA® charterholder. He enjoys traveling, reading, hiking, and kayaking.

Lindsay helps manage our Israel practice, working closely with both our employees and client families to help navigate the complexities that arise with dual citizenship. Prior to joining BGA, she worked as a Relationship Manager at Crestwood Advisors. Lindsay graduated from the University of Delaware with a BA in Economics and is a CFP® practitioner. Outside of the office, Lindsay enjoys staying active: going for long runs, skiing, and exploring the city by foot. She resides in South Boston with her husband and son.

Sarin is a licensed Israeli CPA and a lawyer with extensive experience in Israeli and international tax law. Before joining BGA, Sarin spent seven years at the Israeli Tax Authority as a Senior Tax Inspector and two years at a leading law firm in Israel. Sarin completed her undergraduate studies at the Israel College of Management and received her Law MA from Bar Ilan University. Outside of work, Sarin enjoys traveling and spending time with her family.

Tom joined the BGA Advisory Board in July of 2018. He recently retired from Cambridge Associates after 25 years of working with clients developing and implementing investment policy as well as providing support to the Cambridge proprietary research done for alternative investments. Prior to Cambridge Associates, Tom worked in the private equity business investing in small growth businesses for 7 years as well as with Thermo Electron in both US and Canadian divisions as the Chief Financial Officer for 4 years. He started his career with Coopers and Lybrand in Montreal and received his Chartered Accountant designation in 1976.
Philip Bullen

Philip Bullen has been affiliated with BGA since 2008 as an employee, director, and advisor. He has over 35 years of experience in the asset management industry as both a President/CEO and Chief Investment Officer. He was Group Chief Investment Officer of Fidelity Management & Research Company where during his tenure he was responsible for US Core, Capital Appreciation, and Growth funds, and prior to that all institutional assets, international equities, and real estate. Previously he was the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Santander Global Advisors, a boutique global money management company with assets in excess of $1.8bn under management. He started in the asset management business in 1977 with Baring Asset Management and during his time with the firm managed US and international equity mandates. He specialized in asset allocation and using quantitative techniques to add value to the investment process. At the end of his career at Baring Asset Management he was President of Baring Asset Management Inc. and responsible for all of the group’s investment management activities in North America.
Mr. Bullen is a member of the investment committee at The Whitehead Institute of Biomedical Research, he is on the board of directors of Aviva US, and he is an advisor to The Man Group. He previously chaired the investment committee at Boston University and was a member of the investment committee at Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. He has an MBA from the City University Business School, London and is a CFA® charterholder.
William Chiasson
Real Estate Advisory Board
Bill is a founding member of Liberty Square Real Estate Partners, a real estate investment firm focused on acquiring and managing multi-family and industrial assets in the northeast. He has a deep resume of acquisitions experience and market knowledge having acquired $7 billion of real estate in over 80 multi-family assets totaling over 21,000 units. He has also acquired over one million square feet of office and industrial/flex space. He was most recently Senior Vice President of Acquisitions with GID Investment Advisers LLC, as well as holding various other titles during his over two decades of time there. GID is a vertically integrated real estate operating company and family office with over 60,000 units and $25 billion in assets under management. His responsibilities there included the selection, due diligence, financial evaluation, structuring, negotiating, and closing of multi-family acquisitions. This also included providing joint venture development capital to the merchant building community. His market knowledge is based on a long track record of operating across the country including a vast network of brokers, developers, and institutional owners. Bill graduated from the Isenberg School of Management at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and later earned his MBA from Bentley University.

Alexander is currently a Partner and Head of the US for 65 Equity Partners, an investment firm established with capital commitments from Temasek. Alexander was previously a Senior Partner at Bridgepoint, a publicly listed European investment firm, where he opened and led the firm’s investment office in San Francisco. Prior to Bridgepoint, Alexander was a Managing Director at GI Partners, a real estate and private equity investment firm based in San Francisco. Alexander started his finance career with JP Morgan Securities’ Real Estate Investment Banking group in NY and London. Alexander holds an MBA from the Darden Graduate School of Business at the University of Virginia and a Bachelor of Arts from Colgate University. He is currently on the Board of Trustees at The Branson School.
Peter Goedecke

Peter has been active in commercial real estate finance since earning his MBA from Stanford University in 1973. Peter co-founded Fowler, Goedecke & Co., Inc. in 1974, participated in its acquisition of Leggat McCall & Werner Financial Corporation in 1981 and subsequent growth as Fowler Goedecke Ellis & O’Connor, Inc. to become the Northeast’s largest privately-held mortgage banking firm. Coincident with the sale of FGEO to Amresco in 1998, Peter founded Goedecke & Co., LLC to carry on the mission of its predecessor: the confidential provision of advice free of conflicts of interest leading to the arrangement of real estate financings optimized for the client and the investor, not the intermediary, with a concentration on New England assets. In conjunction with founding and running the two firms, during his career Peter has successfully arranged billions in financing for virtually every type of income producing real estate, under nearly every conceivable financial structure.
Bruce Gorsky

Bruce has been investing in commercial real estate properties with other high net worth investors and institutions for more than 30 years. These investments encompass the entire capital stack from debt (senior, junior, and mezzanine) to equity. Bruce is an executive with broad experience in all aspects of real estate development, acquisitions, joint ventures, financing, and financial management. Bruce has spent numerous years as a professor, teaching real estate finance and development in the Graduate School of Babson College.
Kevin Grant

Kevin founded CYS, a publicly traded mortgage REIT, in 2006 and served as Chairman, CEO, CIO, and President until the company was sold in 2018. Kevin began his investing career in 1985 with Aetna Bond Investors. From there Kevin served as Vice President and Portfolio Manager at Fidelity Investments. At Fidelity, Kevin was responsible for management of fixed income assets in mutual funds, institutional separate accounts, and the oversight of many separate accounts for Fidelity’s institutional clients. In 2005, Kevin founded Sharpridge Capital Management where he served as CEO until its dissolution in 2012. Kevin earned a BA and MBA in Economics from the University of Hartford.
Christopher Hanson

Chris retired in 2018 as Chief Operating Partner and Chief Compliance Officer at Battery Ventures. During his fifteen year career at BV, he was responsible for managing the firm’s operational, finance, human resource, information systems, compliance, and administrative functions. Chris joined Battery from WaterCove Networks, where he served as the company’s Chief Financial Officer. Prior to WaterCove, Chris was the CFO of two public companies, NetGenesis and Saville Systems, and one private company, !hey Software. He also served as Treasurer for System Software Associates, and began his career as a tax professional with Coopers & Lybrand (now PricewaterhouseCoopers). Chris, a former CPA, holds a MS degree in Taxation from DePaul University and received his undergraduate degree from the University of Illinois.
Joshua Katzen

Josh is widely known as a Boston-based real estate developer. Since 1985 he has been the President of multiple real estate companies involved in acquisition, development and management of shopping centers and apartment communities in the New England area. In addition to his work in the real estate industry, Josh has spent time as a Professor, teaching real estate development and finance at Dartmouth College, Brandeis University & Tel Aviv University. Prior to his time at Rochester Management Corp., Joshua worked as an attorney for Goulston & Storrs, P.C.. His position as an attorney grew from his time as a Law Clerk at the United States District Court, District of Delaware. He graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Law School with a Juris Doctor Degree.
Matt Pullen

Matt is a Vice Chairman at Newmark’s Capital Markets Group in Boston, the nation’s largest and most successful investment property sales teams, specializing in the sale of office, life-science, industrial and mixed-use properties throughout the region. Matt has handled the sale of over $45 billion of assets in the United States. He started his career at CBRE before joining the market leading investment team at Cushman & Wakefield in 2012. They later joined Newmark in 2016, where they went onto become the dominant sales team in the country, earning the #1 ranking by market share each year by Real Estate Alert. A graduate with honors from the University of Richmond, Matt is the former Chair of Boston’s Urban Land Institute (ULI) and an active member of the Association of Foreign Investors in Real Estate (AFIRE). He is currently a member of the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital President’s Council, the Mass General Corporate Board and a supporter of the Navy SEAL Foundation. A licensed US Coast Guard Captain for over 25 years, Matt lives in the North Shore of Massachusetts with his wife and their two children.
Morris Smith

Morris Smith began his professional career in 1982 as an analyst at Fidelity Investments where he covered lodging, gaming and all of the housing-related industries. After several years he was promoted to manager of the Fidelity Select Leisure Fund and then the Fidelity Over-the-Counter Fund. In 1990, Morris was selected to take over for Peter Lynch in managing Fidelity’s largest and most successful fund at the time, the Magellan Fund. Magellan posted very strong returns and assets under management grew from $13b to $20b before Morris retired from Fidelity in 1992. After leaving Fidelity, Morris moved with his family to Israel to pursue religious studies. He and his family now reside in New York where he spends his time studying, managing his personal capital, and working with various charitable organizations. Morris received his undergraduate degree from Queens College and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.
